Ireland...the last leg

Susan called on Sunday morning.  She had just repelled off of the castle wall.  It was raining a good deal she said.  She loved it because at the top you could see the ocean.

She told us that England was her favorite so far.  She loved the United Kingdom Sailing Academy (UKSA) and said that she would be going back to England again.  Yesterday, we also got a card that she sent us from England detailing her adventures at the UKSA.  She tried her hand at windsurfing and kayaking.  I think she capsized her kayak 3 times but did fairly well at windsurfing.  She says she wants to learn how to surf.  That will be problematic for us considering that we are in the Midwest.  Believe me, she'll find a way!

The last part of her journey is in Ireland.  She will get to see how Gaelic football and hurling played a pivotal role in modern Irish history.  She will get to visit another castle (Bunratty Castle) built in the 15th century and restored to its original condition in the 1950's.  She will get to see the countryside and lakes of Killarney in a horse-drawn jaunty car.

My mom is in town this week and will be coming with me to pick Susan up from the airport.  Paul took two of the youth that mom drove up from Texas to the Higher Things youth conference.  We were not able to send our 3 youth from our church this year because of scheduling conflicts (Susan obviously couldn't go).

Anyway, it will be a fast week.  Must go, chaos is surrounding me!

Really pleased that Susan enjoyed herself at UKSA. They have had a cracking week of weather. Delighted we have ignited her passion for on the water fun. As a charity that is one of our goals. Good luck with finding her some surfing lessons - sadly I cant offer any guidance- the mid west is outside our area of knowledge.

When Susan is old enough, UKSA can provide training for a career in watersports. We have quite a few students come from the US.

    Hi,

No I didnt get to meet Susan. In my role as marketing manager I am kept locked up in a hot office planning advertising campaigns at this time of the year for the comming fall.

Currently working on a free online knot tying course, which will launch this friday 4th july. If readers of your blog wanted to get a taste of UKSA instruction and learn something a little different I could send you a link to it. ( its six short video knots sent over 6 days)

let me know if you are interested. It would be great if parents of susans group could tell them what they have been learning from UKSA when the group finaly get back Might be fun
