Technical Difficulties
Finally! I was having problems with my blog account. They seem to have updated their system and I didn't get the memo. So I haven't been able to do an update on Susan...now that I can...here goes!
Susan has spent the past 3 1/2 days in France and has been able to call every day from there to let us know what she is able to do and see. Friday she called us from The Louvre Museum. She was to go see the Mona Lisa. She was really impressed with all of the marble and beautiful ceiling frescoes. Just a bit of fun fact about the museum: it is so large it would take at least 3 weeks to see the entire collection of art displayed within the museum!
She was also to go see Notre-Dame cathedral. Susan didn't mention anything about this in our short phone conversation, so I hope she got to see it.
We got a phone call at about 4:15 am yesterday. She was calling from the top of the Eiffel Tower! Paul heard the phone and talked to her. She said the view was unbelievable. Paul, of course, had to ask her how the food was (ha, ha). She said she tried escargot and liked it. This doesn't surprise me! I've tried it once and liked it as well.
Today she called and said they were waiting by the ferry to take their overnight ferry trip across the English Channel. What fun!!!! She apologized to me for not being homesick. I guess there are a couple of kids that have been having a rough time. I told her not to be sorry for that! I think it's great that she can travel and enjoy other places without thinking about home all the time. She said that she did cry during the ceremony they participated in at the WWII museum. She was amazed by the 9,387 graves that were perfectly lined up at Omaha Beach in Normandy. Her comment was, "I can't believe all of those men died for me!" Right on.
Tomorrow she will be in England. She will attend the United Kingdom Sailing Academy in Cowes. It is the home of the America's Cup Sailing Race. She will spend the next two days on instruction in sailing, windsurfing, or kayaking. She is REALLY looking forward to this part of the trip!
We are off to the pool! Everyone is waiting for me so I've gotta go!
