Last day in Belgium and flood update
Today was Susan's last day in Belgium. She was to stay in Dinant and then travel to Bastogne. If you are a WWII history buff you will know that this is where the Battle of the Bulge took place. It was recorded as the bloodiest battle fought during the war. She will get to visit Easy Company's fox holes, the Battle of the Bulge Museum to remember all of the fallen soldiers who paid the ultimate price, and the cities of Peace Park.
Our little town of Warsaw made it on national news today. We had a levee break just south of our small town. The damage is too great to put into words. Literally thousands of acres of farmland are under water. Many more homes were flooded. Someone told me today that back in 1993, the same levee broke and it took nearly half a year before the road going through that area was reopened. It is almost too much to comprehend.
There were two National Guard trucks that passed through town today as Martin and I were filling our bird feeder in front of our home. Martin waved at the men packed into the back of the trucks and said, "Yep, those are my heroes. Those are my soldiers". It warms my heart to see my son express in his own way the awe he has for these men who have worked hard to keep our town going. I know I sure do appreciate their service.
I broke down and gave my dog, Corky, a hair cut today. He is a Pom mix and has A LOT of fur. He looks ridiculous but I know he will be much cooler. He avoided me like the plague for about 2 hours after his trimming. He wasn't too happy with me. I think that I will try to take him to a dog groomers the next time...I don't have the time or the patience to trim him properly.
